Here’s another one of those things that are happening that I just don’t know about. I have no idea what Occupy Wall Street is or what it’s supposed to be about. I get my news from NY1, so I must have missed the day they started talking about OWS.
But this I saw.
Let me say this; I have cops in my family, and as a writer, I’ve read plenty of police procedurals, so I don’t know if what the cops did is wrong, from a technical standpoint. Morally speaking, however, this is deplorable. Some who would defend the police action(s) would say that the cops were justified; that if the protesters would have just listened without asking questions, this wouldn’t have happened. But that’s garbage. The police have a motto of “To Serve and Protect.” Who were they serving? Who was protected? And the fake charges of damaging vehicles? THEY WERE ON THE SIDEWALK!
Does anybody remember this?

There is no justification for any of this. I don’t know who the NYPD is hiring, but they need to change their methods. You’ve got cops “daggering” at the West Indian Parade, one week and then macing peaceful protesters three weeks later. There’s something rotten in Denmark, folks.
My name is Kelly Schomburg, I’m the girl with the red hair in these pictures. I was protesting at the Occupy Wall Street march yesterday when I and several other women were sprayed with mace and subsequently arrested. Many have already seen the video, which has been spreading like wildfire over twitter, Facebook, tumblr, and other video feeds, along with hundreds of other photos and videos. This is my recount of what happened.
